Milling of slots
Groove milling (usually at least one straight groove that is not closed) is the simultaneous use of the circumferential and face edges of the milling cutter to create an open or closed groove on the workpiece (see figure). Closed grooves are generally processed with end mills (also known as end mills, shoulder mills), while through grooves are mostly processed with side and face mills, of course, through grooves can also be processed with end mills.
