Solid Carbide End Mill(part1)

Solid Carbide End Mill
The solid carbide end mill is a main component of carbide milling cutters (another main component is the carbide die milling cutter, which will be discussed in Chapter 5 of this book). The main parts of the solid carbide end mill are shown in Figure 3 - 8: the solid carbide milling cutter is mainly divided into two parts, the working part and the shank. The commonly used diameter range is currently 3 to 20 mm. Milling cutters smaller than 3 mm or larger than 20 mm can also be supplied by manufacturers, but they are not widely used and are not within the main scope of discussion in this book.
Working Part of the Solid Carbide Milling Cutter
The working part of the milling cutter is roughly composed of three cutting edge segments: end teeth, peripheral teeth, and the corner radius or chamfer at the transition between the two.
The end teeth of the end mill are the part of the teeth at the head of the milling cutter that is perpendicular to the axis of the tool. The main parameters of the end teeth of the solid carbide end mill are shown in Figure 3 - 9.
The end teeth of the milling cutter are mainly divided into two types: one with longer teeth that will cross the axis of the milling cutter, and this kind of tooth is called the center-passing tooth; the other is a shorter tooth, and this shorter tooth will not cross the axis of the milling cutter. In the lower figure of Figure 3 - 10, the red dimension is the long tooth (center-passing tooth), and the blue dimension is the short tooth (non-center-passing tooth).3-93-83-10
