Aluminum milling cutters are generally divided into three types: aluminum flat bottom knives, aluminum ball nose knives, and aluminum round nose knives.
Machining Characteristics of Aluminum Alloys
1. Compared with other hardened steels, the hardness of aluminum alloys is lower than that of titanium alloys and other hardened steels. Of course, aluminum alloys are also very hard after heat treatment, or die-cast aluminum alloys. The HRC hardness of ordinary aluminum plates is generally lower than HRC40 degrees. Therefore, when machining aluminum alloys, the tool load is small. The thermal conductivity of aluminum material is good, so that the cutting temperature of milling aluminum alloy is lower, thereby increasing the milling speed of aluminum alloy.
2. Aluminum alloy has low plasticity and low melting point. In aluminum processing, the problem of sticking is serious, the chip removal performance is poor, and the surface roughness is also high. In fact, the processing of aluminum alloys is mainly rod-shaped knives, and the roughness effect is not good. Only by solving the two problems of sticking and machining surface quality can the aluminum alloy machining problem be solved.
The tool is easy to wear. Because of the use of inappropriate tool materials, when machining aluminum alloys, the tool wear is often accelerated due to problems such as sticking and chip removal.
3. Aluminum alloy processing generally uses 3-blade aluminum milling cutter. Because of the difference in processing conditions, it is likely to use a 2-blade ball-end knife or a 4-blade flat-bottom knife. However, it is recommended that in most cases, a 3-blade flat-bottom end mill can be used, and the material is generally YG-type cemented carbide, which can reduce the chemical affinity between the tool and the aluminum alloy. Ordinary CNC tool brands have special milling cutter series products for processing aluminum alloys.
4. The milling cutter for high-speed steel high-speed steel aluminum profiles is relatively sharp, and can also process aluminum alloys well.
5. For the processing of ordinary aluminum alloys, high speed and large feed can generally be used. Secondly, choose a larger rake angle as much as possible to increase the chip space and reduce the phenomenon of sticking. If it is a finished aluminum alloy, water-based cutting fluid cannot be used to avoid the formation of small pinholes on the machined surface. Generally, kerosene or diesel oil can be used as the cutting fluid for aluminum plate processing. The cutting speed of aluminum alloy milling cutters varies depending on the material and parameters of the milling cutter and the machining process. The specific cutting parameters for processing can be processed according to the cutting parameters provided by the manufacturer.
